Salt has the property of preserving food by preventing …

Salt has the property of preserving food by preventing putrefaction. It is therefore linked to the idea of purification and is used in certain religious ceremonies – Christian baptism, for example – but also in rites of exorcism to cast out demons and release people from spells. There is no fundamental difference, then, between certain religious and magic rites. The purpose of the ceremony of baptism, during which the priest pours water on the infant and puts salt on its lips, is to wash away the baby’s original sin and protect its soul from attacks by demons. Most Christian rituals, and those of other religions as well, are rites of magic. But magic is obviously a subject you must approach with a great deal of discernment. Above all, you must see to it that you use its methods only for good, so that you act as a white magus and bring peace and light wherever you go.
