News of a tragic event or a happy surprise can provoke …

News of a tragic event or a happy surprise can provoke overwhelming emotion in a person. Yet, what is news? How can something immaterial upset people to such an extent it makes them ill or go mad, even kills them… or, on the contrary, produces a miraculous healing? Take the case of a mother who has been paralysed for years. One night a fire breaks out in her house. Her child is sleeping in another bedroom. The thought that her child could be burnt alive is such an intense shock to her that she jumps out of bed to grab him and carry him to safety. Yes, the contact between her nervous system and her muscles is restored once more through the force of her love. Of course, this happens only rarely, but it does happen. So why not study these phenomena? You’ll say you’ve known about such things for a long time. Yes, perhaps, but has that ever led you to study these processes in order to improve some of your inner states?
