Jesus said, ‘You are the temple of the living God.’ Yes, a human being who has learned to strengthen their will, purify their heart, enlighten their mind, expand their soul and sanctify their spirit – such a being is a true temple. Even their physical body becomes a temple, and they can call on the Lord to come and dwell in it. Unfortunately, most human beings do not take care of their temple; they continually defile it by using it for pleasure and the gratification of their instincts. This is why their body is no longer a temple but a cowshed or a pigsty. It becomes like the temple of Jerusalem, where merchants brought all kinds of cattle and poultry to sell, and nobody got indignant about it; everyone thought it was normal. But Jesus made a whip of cords and drove them all from the temple, telling them to take it all away, as they were making of the temple ‘a den of robbers’. So, do not imitate the merchants in the temple. Do not allow your bodies to become pigsties, for if you do, it is not the Lord who will come and dwell in you but the lowest and least desirable beings, those that enjoy filth and feed on impurities.
