The wish to command others is one of the mostly deeply …

The wish to command others is one of the mostly deeply rooted of all human tendencies. Yet when a desire manifests in people, coiling itself around them like a snake, they capitulate without resistance and abandon themselves entirely to the service of this desire. Analyze yourself carefully and you will see that this is what happens. Human beings are capable of giving orders to others, but they are unable to give themselves the orders necessary to put their own situation right. And the work of disciples is precisely this: to become aware of their inner being so they may re-establish order, and reclaim their kingly status, which they lost when their lower desires and passions took control. Everything you may accomplish in other domains pales in comparison to this one work: the work to harmonize yourself with the cosmos, and to establish this harmony within your own kingdom by taking charge of your own people, of your own cells. Tell them: ‘You are to do my will and nothing else!' and they will be obliged to submit, because you have taken command of them, thanks to your obedience to divine laws, and not by virtue of your personal authority. This is how you will regain your sovereignty.
