Present, being - in what we are doing

When the time comes you have set aside for prayer or meditation, your mind is often on other things. Then, when you have to attend to business, you say to yourself, 'Ah, I feel I should go and be with myself', and again you are distracted and do your work badly. Observe yourself: you will see how often your state of mind is not in tune with what you are doing. When you are preparing your meal, doing the washing up or driving your car, it is not the time to be thinking of meditating. You have to be present in whatever you are doing, because there is a time for everything. Otherwise, whether you are engaged in spiritual work, intellectual work, physical work or even recreation, there is no time left for anything, because your mind is never where it should be, and you are never properly anywhere.
