The earth is the sphere of all material realizations. On the one hand, this is greatly encouraging, but at the same time it is very dangerous, since evil as well as good is materialized. There are regions in the universe where evil has no hold, but on earth everything has the right to be realized; you have to grasp this. That is why, in the face of all the crime being committed and all the misfortune striking humanity, it is no use asking yourself, ‘But how can God allow such things to happen?’ It is not a question of God’s permission; it is simply the nature of things. It is like that because we are on earth, and on earth both good and evil can find the conditions they need for realization. So, for good as for evil, we must develop patience: the patience to endure the schemes of evil, which make us suffer, and the patience to wait for the realization of the good things we are hoping and working for.
