The life we see manifesting around us seems so self-evident …

The life we see manifesting around us seems so self-evident that we think we know what it is. And yet how do we define life? We say that creatures are alive when they are capable of making exchanges with the world around them in order to extract the elements that are indispensable to them. Most often they do this unconsciously. That stones, plants and animals do not have this consciousness is normal, but what about human beings? When they eat, drink, breathe or are exposed to the sun, how many of them are fully aware of what this food, air, heat and light bring them? It is precisely this consciousness that the disciple must acquire. Only by doing so will he manage to carry out his exchanges fully and understand what life really is.
