The presence of a being or thing implies the absence of its opposite. This observation is so simple and obvious! Where health is absent, there is illness. Where light is absent, there is darkness. Where wisdom is absent, there is stupidity and folly. And the same is true for everything else. In order to progress in your understanding, you must learn to observe the facts and events that take place in front of you and apply your observations to your inner life. When I tell you that the best activity for a disciple is to work to attract and maintain the presence of the Lord within him, you will understand that this presence, which is light, purity and beauty, will chase away all shadows, all impurity and all ugliness. Of course, the Lord may not come in person, but he will at least send his angels, who are his representatives. They will come to dwell in you and will transform everything.
