The cross is a symbol full of meaning; in it we can see the masculine principle (the vertical line) and the feminine principle (the horizontal line) which unite to work together in the universe. The work stems from a centre which is the intersection of the two arms. The centre unites the forces and holds them together. Without the centre the cross would separate and break up as soon as it starts to rotate. Because, in fact, the cross rotates and as it rotates, it draws out a circle with its arms. A cross in motion is referred to in Sanskrit as a swastika, which is a cross with equal arms with a limb of the same length projecting at right angles from the end of each arm, all in the same direction. A cross with its arms angled in a clockwise direction (diagram) implies a screwing down action to prevent energies from manifesting: the energies are curbed and dominated; it is the symbol of spirituality which stems the flow of the instinctive forces. If the arms are angled in an anti-clockwise direction (diagram), the curb is loosened to release the brute forces and as such the path of the sublime forces of the spirit is blocked.
