All human beings have been given the faculty of thought. …

All human beings have been given the faculty of thought. But how do they think? If someone goes up to a pile of dung and starts moving it, it will emit a nauseous smell. Well, this is how people often think: they move the dung, and there’s a foul smell! There isn’t one human being who doesn’t think, for thought precedes everything and presides over everything. Even those who do nothing think, but their thoughts drift like leaves in the wind. Others actively think how they can steal, deceive, pilfer, murder… True thinking first involves knowing what to think about and how to think. For the initiates, thought is a means of allowing human beings to approach the divine world, the world of light, certainty and peace. So resolve to do this work; even if you are on your own and deprived of everything, you will live in joy, and heaven and earth will be within you and belong to you.
