On the roads we see a constant stream of cars passing each other as they travel in opposite directions. This opposition is normal, provided the cars don’t collide. In our body, too, the circulation of venous and arterial blood flows in two opposite directions, but the two must not be mixed, as this is what causes the blue disease. So evil does not reside in the fact that opposing directions or forces exist, for these work together. But if these forces collide and mix, they eventually obliterate each other; this is what evil is. Look again at fire and water. What extraordinary things can happen when we place water on fire! – but only when a partition separates them. Otherwise, the fire will cause the water to evaporate, and the water will extinguish the fire. This is what happens in all areas of life, when you don’t know what to do to get opposite poles and contrary forces to participate together in the same work.
