Are thoughts realized straight away? Yes, but they are realized in their own region, in the mental plane. A great deal of time is required before thoughts are realized in the physical plane because they have to pass through the different layers of the astral plane (the plane of feelings), which is the region that lies between the mental plane and the physical plane.* If, therefore, we want our thoughts to be realized more quickly, we must nurture within us feelings that correspond to those thoughts. You have no doubt seen how in nature the sun acts on the air (the wind), the air acts on water (the oceans) and water acts on the earth (the rocks). According to the law of correspondences, the sun represents the spirit, the air thought, and water the feeling that acts on the earth, the physical world. If the great mages have the power to materialize their thought, it is because they have learnt to work on the intermediaries that allow them to descend step by step to the physical plane.
