People do not realise that by endlessly calling attention …

People do not realise that by endlessly calling attention to the faults of others, they form links with these defects and thereby harm themselves. Yes, we have not yet thoroughly studied all these connections which are created between people. When you criticise someone, heaven says to you: 'Since you wish to correct him, that means that you are rich; so give him some of your wealth! How much do you have in your account? Give him half of it.' But when you speak well of someone, heaven says to him: 'By speaking about you in this way, he is increasing your wealth. So give him some of your treasure. 'Thus, if you speak ill of others, it is they who will profit from it, whereas if you speak well of them, it is you who will benefit. But let us assume that you were obliged to say something negative about someone: instead of ending with this, add a positive word about him. Whatever his defects may be, try to find a good quality in him and comment on it, in order to create a beneficial effect upon him, and upon yourself! You must never end on a negative note.
