To know, to will, to dare, to keep silent - why we should keep silent
‘To know, to will, to dare, to keep silent.’* This fourfold axiom sums up the science of Initiates. Why ‘keep silent’? you ask. Because if you know what you have to do, if you have the will to do it and dare to begin the work, there is nothing more to say. The results of your work will be expressed in your whole being. When you dwell in peace and joy, is it necessary to tell others about it? No, they can see and feel it. And if a storm is raging within you, it is no good telling people that you are floating in a state of serenity and harmony – they will not believe you. They will only laugh in your face because here too, everything – all your internal disorder and tumult – shows through. Human beings talk and talk; they try to convince others by their eloquence, but reality speaks for itself. The trouble is that people’s words say one thing while reality often says something quite different. This is why the precept ‘keep silent’ is something you need to meditate on.
