Money has tremendous power over man's lower nature. It is inviting, exciting: 'Yes go on! You have the means to ruin this one, to supplant that one... This woman is married? It doesn't matter... what's holding you back? Since you like her, you can have her: you'll see, she will not resist your car and the diamonds you offer her.' Yes, money is a very bad counselor of the lower nature; you can see it every day. And if you really want to know someone, give him some money and see how he behaves once he is rich. If he does not immediately plunge into pleasures, if he does not become conceited, demanding, hard, arrogant, etc., if he does not use his money to dominate or deceive others, then this is a wonderful person on whom you can rely. Someone who does not succumb to any of the temptations money inspires proves that he knows how to master his lower nature.
