Wherever you go you meet people who are dissatisfied. And …

Wherever you go you meet people who are dissatisfied. And where does this dissatisfaction come from? From the fact they have not understood they need to have a high ideal, a divine idea to illuminate and purify their inner atmosphere. So, whatever they do, they end up suffocated, imprisoned. Even on holiday, even in the best possible surroundings, in the mountains, at the seaside, they remain in the same deplorable state. Yes, even away from their office, their workshop, their factory, they continue to feel unhappy and lifeless. Why? Because inwardly they have cut the connection with heaven. As soon as the connection with heaven is cut nothing material can bring comfort; they will continue to suffer whatever they do. Of course it would be foolish to claim that the life of factory-workers for instance is a bed of roses, and that society is not riddled with injustices which must be put right. But that is a different issue. If you consider carefully you will see that even if major improvements are made on a material level, the same dissatisfaction – or worse – will persist because without the connection with heaven people will always find a reason to be unhappy and complain. Just look at the number of material problems which have been resolved over the years, yet people do not think themselves any happier or more satisfied. Proof that they are still lacking something.
