Unlike other musical instruments, our vocal cords exist within us. Everything we live, all the thoughts and feelings we nourish in our heart and mind have repercussions on our voice. This explains why the human voice has not yet expressed all its richness or manifested all its powers. This question of the voice does not concern singers alone, since it is not only the words we sing but the words we speak that influence those who listen. The voice is an expression of what we are – so many of us are recognized by our voice alone! – and since it is our principle means of communication with others, we must recognize that by our way of life we can make it an instrument of light and peace as well.
