Human beings are peculiar: they imagine that by merely kneeling down in a church or temple and reciting a few prayers, they will experience the presence of God. No, they cannot sense the presence of God unless they do some inner cleansing. Just as the light of the sun cannot shine through a window covered with dust or soot, so the divine presence cannot penetrate those who have not rid themselves of their impurities. There is always work to be done in this respect. This is why, every day, morning and evening, you must think about this purification. By analysing your inner states, your thoughts and feelings, by striving to master them and to guide them in the direction of good, you will become like a transparent crystal through which the light of heaven can shine. It is then that you will feel the presence of the Creator.
