Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil - Whenever human beings reject all spiritual and moral authority and do as they please

Whenever human beings reject all spiritual and moral authority and do as they please, they unwittingly repeat the fault of Adam and Eve. Genesis tells us that God placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden and forbade them to eat the fruit of the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil. When they disobeyed they were cast out of the Garden.* The mystery surrounding the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil concerns the forces that are active in nature. Human beings occupy a specific place in the universe and a corresponding level of consciousness that does not allow them to know or experience all that exists with impunity. Although it is true to say that curiosity is one of the main driving forces for human evolution, there are certain experiences for which human beings are still not ready, and to embark on them prematurely is to expose oneself to great dangers. Symbolically speaking, we might say that before the Fall, the first human beings lived among the flowers of the Cosmic Tree, but when they sought to broaden their field of investigation they descended into the roots. There are certainly many things to be discovered among the roots, but Adam and Eve also discovered limitation and death.
