If you truly want to become master of yourself, begin by practising at mealtimes. Learn to move objects without knocking them against each other then, for the rest of the day, this harmony will be reflected in all your various activities, simply because you have practised at table. Efforts to eat without making any noise are not sufficient; you must also learn to focus your attention on the food itself. Try to put aside all other preoccupations and think only of the food, marvelling at all the powers, energies, and vitality with which God has imbued it. Once you have learned to eat in this state of harmony you will be able to take on a number of different activities without ever tiring.
