What good are science and philosophy to us if we are not …

What good are science and philosophy to us if we are not alive? And in order to be alive, we must nourish ourselves properly, and on all planes. In the universities, students are taught philosophy and science, but they are not nourished. This is why, symbolically speaking, they often have shaky legs, an empty heart, and a dense fog in front of their eyes. In the schools of the great initiates, on the other hand, students are well nourished, and when they have become strong and robust, they are given a plough, taught how to cultivate the earth, and put to work. Obviously here the earth signifies that which every human being possesses within himself: his mind, his intellect. Those who know how to work and to plant good crops on their own land will eat plentifully all their lives. The others will only see thistles, thorns and brambles grow, which will not only be useless, but harmful, for them and for others as well.
