It is normal for people who are educated and cultivated to use their knowledge to speak, write and teach, but they rarely use this knowledge to develop their own character. This is a serious shortcoming, for in spite of all their knowledge they remain weak and irresolute. You must continually read and study; this is necessary. Even in an initiatic teaching you must first familiarize yourself with the ideas. Given that you are not yet able to feel, taste and live these great truths, you have to begin by studying them. Having acknowledged this, however, a spiritual master always urges his disciples to put the emphasis on life. The materials he gives them are not to be kept in a corner of their mind, but to be used to begin building something within themselves. This is how each of you must use the education and culture you have acquired.
