Because of the way they are constructed, human beings must …

Because of the way they are constructed, human beings must continually come out of themselves. They do so from the moment they wake up in the morning: they look, listen and speak, they leave the house to go to work or to shop, they visit friends, amuse themselves, take a walk or travel. This is all very well, but eventually they are so consumed by all these external activities that they lose touch with themselves and no longer know who they really are. From then on, not only do they fail to see situations clearly and make mistakes as a result, but they become weak, and the slightest shock or annoyance leaves them distraught. It is natural for you to come out of yourself. Every contact with the outside world requires you to do so. But in order to keep your bearings, you must constantly see to it that balance is restored between exterior and interior, between periphery and centre, between matter and spirit.
