It is a mistake to think that spirit and matter are in opposition, for matter is a condensation of spirit. And on this matter which came from it, spirit works to bring forth innumerable forms of life. Spirit and matter are two aspects of God himself. Matter is as sacred and holy as spirit because it is the daughter of spirit. When Genesis tells us that God created Adam and Eve, it is a way of expressing that he created spirit and matter. He created Adam (spirit), and from Adam’s rib he fashioned Eve (matter). For the initiates who possess true knowledge, matter could not have appeared out of nothing. It originated in spirit, it emanated from spirit, and it is the result of the work of God himself.
