Materialists can undoubtedly be criticized for their philosophy, but no-one can deny they are doing good work. These people are true heroes! They have taken upon themselves the enormous task of working on matter, they are hard-working, enterprising and daring, and are capable of achievements that the contemplatives and mystics are not capable of. But do not take this as an encouragement to leave behind your spiritual endeavours and swell the ranks of the materialists. It is good to be doing work on earth, but behaving as if only the earth existed is a mistake. When the materialists arrive in the other world, they will find themselves destitute, because they will have worked only for the earth. The best solution, therefore, is to be both, in other words an idealist when it comes to your philosophy and a materialist when it comes to work so that you are a good worker in matter, because you can only act well on matter if in your thought you put your spirit first.
