It is true that through psychiatry and psychoanalysis we …

It is true that through psychiatry and psychoanalysis we have gained a certain knowledge of the subconscious. But the subconscious is a vast and very dangerous region, comparable to the depths of the ocean where we have to make our way through seaweed, octopuses and sharks. Those who decide to dive down without proper equipment court the greatest dangers, for not only will they be terrorized by the monsters they encounter, but they risk being devoured. No one would venture into the depths of the sea or the bowels of the earth without proper equipment and training. But when it comes to delving into the depths of their own nature, many imagine it to be easy and without risk. No, it is precisely here that the greatest dangers lie, and if people are to escape them they must make sure they are equipped and trained. How? By first seeking to elevate themselves to the regions above consciousness and self-awareness: to the regions of the superconscious.
