The French use the expression ‘to make love’, but whoever invented it wasn’t all that inspired. For no one can ‘make’ love. Love is a current of forces, way beyond us; we are not masters of these forces, still less their creators. Love is a power, a principle that comes from God himself. It’s an energy, and when we love it’s this energy we allow to pass through us. But as humans rarely know how to love, this energy does not pass through them harmoniously. So they say they ‘make love’, by which they mean they assume certain positions, make certain gestures and say particular words… but is that love? It’s doubtful.
