The intellect is a faculty which allows us to know the physical world and a little of the psychic world, but no more. By itself it cannot reveal life as it truly is. Let us take the simple example of a rose. To know a rose is not merely to perceive its form, colour and fragrance. A rose is also a subtle emanation, a presence which we cannot grasp with the intellect. To know the rose is to feel the entire combination of elements that make it a rose rather than something else. All the more so where a human being is concerned: to know someone presumes that we can bring together and synthesize all the elements he is composed of, from his spirit to his physical body. To the extent that you cannot do this, you cannot claim to know him and to possess the truth about him. For the truth of a person, his definitive, absolute truth, lies in his spirit, and only the spirit can know it.
