When adolescents read novels, they focus on the passages …

When adolescents read novels, they focus on the passages about love and adventure. If these novels treat social, political or philosophical matters, they quickly skim them. But as the years go by, people practise their professions, marry, have children and live different experiences, and if they come across these same novels again, what had impressed them in the past no longer interests them. Instead, they concentrate on the passages they had once put aside, for everything they have experienced since then has opened their minds to new subjects. In the same way, the teaching of the initiates is only appreciated by those whom life has matured. Others who haven’t had certain experiences or asked certain questions will find it uninteresting and even forbidding. They are still very young! But once life leads them to pose the essential questions, they will feel a whole new world open before them.
