Whether or not beings and objects exist for a person …

Whether or not beings and objects exist for a person depends on his state. Suppose someone is asleep: the treasures of the whole world could be piled up around him, but since he is asleep, he is completely unaware of them, and it is as though none of it were there. It can be said that most human beings are deeply unconscious and asleep. Only the initiates, who are truly awake, can see and marvel at the splendours around them. Others have these same treasures around them and within them, but they do not realise it. Everything, therefore, depends on our state of consciousness. When we are awake, certain things take on reality for us, and when we fall asleep, they fade away.
