Even in the face of truths which should at least make them …

Even in the face of truths which should at least make them reflect, many people say: ‘Oh no, I don’t believe that.’ And they express their opinion as if they had penetrated all the secrets of the universe and resolved all their problems, while in fact their life lacks all direction, and they are utterly vulnerable! A truly reasonable person never says: ‘I believe’ or ‘I don’t believe.’ He reflects, he verifies, he makes extensive experiments, and in the end he has the right to say ‘I know’ rather than ‘I believe’. People who stick stubbornly to their beliefs demonstrate that they don’t know very much. They believe, they believe… and God only knows why they hold one belief over another. If only for once they would say to themselves: ‘But who am I to offer an opinion? From now on I’m going to study.’ If they want to evolve, people must first of all stop expressing opinions on matters they know nothing about.
