If you want to feel fit and full of joy and hope in the morning, place a good thought in your head before you go to bed at night so that it can work while you are sleeping. Never go to sleep with negative thoughts in your mind, for they will cause all kinds of disorders within you during the night. And if, just before dropping off, you are seized by a sense of anxiety, do not stay in bed, get up, turn on the light, and do a few breathing exercises, say some prayers, or read something uplifting before going back to bed. If the feeling of unease comes back during the night, get up and repeat the process. You cannot defend yourself properly if you are lying down. There are cases in which the position of the body is very important. You will say, ‘But if I get out of bed I’ll catch cold. I can defend myself mentally while remaining warm in bed.’ No, if you are afraid of catching cold, wrap up warmly, but know that you must be extremely powerful to be able to defend yourself while lying down. We are weaker and more passive in a horizontal position. If you want to defend yourself and dominate the situation, you must get up.*
