Present (being) - in what we are doing

Observe yourself: you will very often notice that you are not in the right state of mind for what you have to do. For example, when it’s time to pray and meditate, your mind is often elsewhere, because you suddenly think of all the work you have to do. Then, when you are working, you feel you really need to be meditating, and again you are distracted. We have to learn to be present in what we are doing, for there is a time for everything. Otherwise, there is no longer any time for anything, because our mind is never where it should be. In the morning, when you are getting ready to go to watch the sunrise, tell yourself, ‘I want to contact purity, beauty, love, light; nothing else must matter.’ Leave your burdens behind; be light and free when you go to meet the sun and the splendours of nature. In order to really see, understand and feel, you have to be present in the moment. Take the example of men and women experiencing deep love: when they are together, they can forget everything else. They look deep into each other’s eyes, and when they want to describe what they have seen, all they speak of is light and vastness.
