Physical body, the - analogy of a tree which gives only its leaves, flowers and fruit

The instinct of possession is not reprehensible in itself. People who want to possess something are right in wanting to do so. Nature has given them that right. Their physical body, for instance, belongs to them and it is best if they keep it for themselves. They may of course use their body for sharing – words, looks, smiles, greetings, help – but they cannot give their body. Look at a tree: it keeps its roots, its trunk, its branches, but it distributes its flowers and its fruit for the joy of all – its leaves can also be useful. This is how nature has organized things. A sage, who has understood this lesson of nature, does exactly like the tree, in that he preserves his roots, his trunk and his branches, symbolically speaking, but widely distributes his flowers and his fruit, in other words his thoughts, his feelings, his words, his light, and his strength. And you too should learn what is alright to give and what you should keep.
