Inner work - creating a garden of paradise within ourselves

Those who are capable of genuine inner work have such a sense of wealth and fulfilment that anything external—material circumstances or the opinion of others—hardly affects them.* They live in the inner world they have created, and nothing and nobody can cause them to doubt or be discouraged. You will say, ‘Yes, but other people cannot see their works, and they will always go unnoticed.’ That is true: people are blind and insensitive to such things, they see nothing and feel nothing. But there are other creatures in the invisible world who come to admire these magnificent landscapes, the gardens of brightly coloured, scented flowers, and the sweet music of the springs that these children of God have created within themselves through their purity, love and light. And who is to say that other human beings will not eventually become aware of the existence of these heavenly gardens of paradise? However, it is not human beings whom spiritual people must first seek to satisfy and delight, but heavenly entities by asking them each day, ‘Will you come visit me again today?’
