Happiness - it can present itself to you in different forms

Why do you think that happiness must necessarily come to you in the form you expect? There are so many different possibilities, but you cannot see them. You do not want to see them. You cling to your own ideas of happiness, hoping that one particular door will open for you... and it remains shut. Instead of weeping in front of that closed door, why not think that there are perhaps others that are on the point of opening.* Suppose you expect great things of someone, and not only do they not give you what you had hoped for, but they are very unpleasant too. Well, rather than fixating on your disappointment, take a better look around, for there are sure to be others who are ready to help you. If you remain focused on your disenchantment and spend your time sending negative thoughts to those who have let you down, you will not see the friends gathering round you. It is in this sense also that your trials are useful: they oblige you to do or to discover things that you would never have done or discovered without them.
