Future, the - preparing for it by taking care to do everything properly today

Human beings are always worried about the future; they are always wondering about whether they will have the food and shelter they need, whether they will have enough money, and so on. They are so absorbed by all these preoccupations that they neglect far more important matters – they neglect their health, they run roughshod over people and things, they break the laws of love and justice, and they no longer care about anything spiritual. As a result, every day leaves a trail of unresolved problems and mistakes for which no reparation is made. All these things pile up until people are overwhelmed and crushed. This is why Jesus told us not to worry about tomorrow. If you see to it each day that your conduct is impeccable, the following day will not be cluttered up with unfinished business, and you will be free to do what you want, while taking care not to leave any loose ends behind for the next day. In this way, each new day will find you free and well disposed. You will be ready to work, to study and enjoy yourself, and your whole life will take on a marvellous hue of happiness and blessedness. To put it in a nutshell, by taking care to do everything properly today, you are indirectly taking care of tomorrow.
