Efforts - make fewer if necessary but never give up
You have decided to undertake a work on yourself, and you strive and practise. But after a while you begin to grow weary, because in time it becomes boring and tiring. Yes, of course, persevering with our efforts is difficult, but stopping presents great drawbacks. Take the example of a car engine. You have to expend a certain amount of energy to start it up. If you stop and turn off the engine, when you want to start it up again you will have to expend the same amount of energy. But you can also stop the car momentarily without turning the engine off, and it sets off again more easily. Doesn’t that give you something to think about and draw conclusions from? Once you have begun any inner work, do not stop; if you are tired, make a little less effort, but keep your ‘engine’ running. This will save you a lot of difficulty the day you regret having given way to laziness and want to resume your work.
