Water - the two methods of purification, analogies with human beings

Due to its great powers of absorption, water, as it passes over the earth or in the atmosphere, becomes laden with impurities. But nature has also provided certain processes that purify water. These processes are of two kinds. In the first, water seeps into the ground and, there in the dark, passes through different layers, leaving behind any impurities on the way. Thus it gradually becomes limpid and clear, and one day it wells up somewhere as spring water. In the second process, evaporation, water is heated by the sun’s rays and rises into the atmosphere and when transformed into vapour, it is purified; subsequently, it falls to earth again as dew or rain, bringing life to all vegetation. For human beings, there are also two methods of purification. Those who lead a dull, prosaic life, led by passion, will have to symbolically go underground where they will be subjected to strong pressure, that is, they will go through difficulties and suffering. But spiritualists constantly choose the other method: they know that by exposing themselves to the rays of spirit, they will become lighter, they will rise and absorb the most light-filled elements which purify and sanctify them.
