Spiritual brotherhood - its usefulness
Why belong to a brotherhood, to a spiritual collectivity? There are many reasons, one of them being that a spiritual community gives its members the best conditions in which to transform themselves and to advance. Even if those who remain alone wish to improve themselves, they do not always have the will to make the effort, whereas it is easier in a collectivity because they are stimulated and supported. Yes, our models and our surroundings have an enormous influence on us. How many people, whether through debauchery, alcohol, drugs or crime, have done stupid things which they would not have done on their own? If we admit that a collectivity has the power to lead people into wrong-doing, why not accept that it can be equally powerful in leading them towards good?
