Gifts - we have received from the Creator: developing them by placing them at his service

You have received so many faculties and qualities from the Creator, but you are not aware of them, because you do not know that the best way of developing them is to place them at his service. One day we will have to give an account of all these gifts. You have read in the Gospels the parable of the servants whose master, before leaving on a journey, entrusted them with a sum of money. He gave the first servant five talents, the second two talents and the third one talent. When he returned, he asked them to account to him for this money. The first two, who had received five talents and two talents, had been busy making their money yield a profit, whereas the other one, who had received one talent, had simply buried it in the ground. The parable says that the master had him put in prison, whereas the others were rewarded. It is the same with the qualities, gifts and virtues given to us. One day, heaven will ask us what we did with them. If we buried them, that is, if we failed to develop them, we will be put in prison, which means that for a time our progress will be limited. If we made the most of them, not only will we be rewarded, but we will receive other gifts that are even more precious.
