Ageing - inevitable on the physical plane but not on the spiritual plane

While people are young and in good health, they never think about the principle of disintegration, which is working insidiously away inside them and will eventually prevail. They tend to think they own the world and that the future will continue to open up before them. How frustrating it is when they start to feel the physical world slipping away from them! And then, in the merciless struggle underway inside them, between the principle of life and the principle of death, what happens is that some want to hold onto life by any means possible: they throw all their resources into the fight, when they should be using them to become more introspective and deeper, and so they lose everything. We have not come to the earth to remain forever young and in good health but to serve an apprenticeship and acquire experience. A sage is someone who is aware of the curve in the road and who endeavours to make use of everything. In the spiritual world there is an uninterrupted ascent. Down here, whatever we do, our forehead and cheeks will gradually show wrinkles, our hair will become white, our teeth will fall out, and so on. But we have to understand that this is not very important if behind the white hair and wrinkles there is an expression of the radiance of the spiritual life.
