The Master Peter Deunov once said, ‘You complain of having an empty stomach, because you’ve had to make do with a quarter of a loaf of bread. It’s not really your stomach that’s empty but your head and heart. If you add a wise thought or a loving feeling to each mouthful, a quarter of a loaf contains enough salt to nourish you for a long time.’ Was the Master really telling us to make do with just a quarter of a loaf of bread a day? No, he simply wanted us to understand that quality is more important than quantity as far as nutrition is concerned. But true quality is hard to find; it’s not supplied in any shop. Quality is a spiritual element which must come from us. We must eat sufficient food, and it must be healthy, but it’s our job to add an element from ourselves to the simplest of food to give it flavour, for this flavour will be a source of energy and plenitude.
